My association with English Springer Spaniels began in 1989, thanks to my sister Joanna who talked me into taking a dog home on trial!! His name was "Casey"
Sailema Kennels strives to breed classic Springer Spaniels from quality English lines for conformation, hunting, agility, lovely family pets and companions. Our dogs have made great show dogs, obedience, agility, hunting and wonderful loving pets
We love our Springer spaniels as they are a very versatile dog and love nothing more than chasing a ball or running and swimming on the beach! Having proudly owned Springer's since 1987 as family pets we’ve been breed showing for the past decade and most recently we have been enjoying agility.
Dogs are DNA & Clinically Eye tested for PRA ( Cord 1), Glaucoma, Fucosidosis tested and hip scored and we follow the UK ethical guidelines for breeders.
Many of the puppies we have bred have found homes all over NZ and overseas. We pride ourselves in providing full advice and help on care and grooming.
Our puppies have made great show dogs, hunting dogs, tracking dogs and wonderful loving pets.(our most recent puppy is being trained to sniff out truffles) and have many references from many new owners about the wonderful natured temperament of our puppies.
Special thanks to my lovely daughter Amelia who has expertly shown the dogs over the last 10 years.

Barbara’s Story:
As a child as I grew up on a farm with a Collie and lots of animals. My sister always showed dogs Old English and St Bernard's. I was always off showing horses. My first dog was a German Shepherd and then an Old English Sheepdog. Then I got my first Springer! "Casey". He was amazing a bit mad but a true English type and used to ride my windsurfer with me. He loved the beach and the river and would hold his head under the water for ages collecting rocks. Crazy! He lived to a dear old age of 15.
So when my daughter showed interest in getting another puppy dog of course it had to be a Springer and her name is "Lilly". So the story began. Sailema kennels is my daughter's name" Amelia's" spelt backwards. We then started on the road to try and breed another Casey. We finally achieved this with Dylan. Who is our current top show dog.
